Sherman Willoughby, 91, of Lancaster, passed away August 11, 2023 in Berea, Kentucky. He was born in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky on January 27, 1932 to the late Sherman, Sr. and Mattie Anderson Willoughby. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 65 years, Mildred Irene Curtis Willoughby.
Sherman was a farmer, and was called by God into the ministry and was ordained as a Baptist preacher in May of 1969. He pastored several churches over the years and led many souls to Christ. He also owned and operated a painting contracting business. Sherman was a good man, wonderful husband and father, and a humble servant to our Lord.
Surviving are seven daughters, Linda Carol King (Leonard) of Stanford, Sherma Suzanne Willoughby of Nicholasville, Sandra Yvonne Stapp (Doug) of Lancaster, Debra Kay Willoughby (Larry) of Danville, Melanie Irene Williams (Tim) of Danville, Barbara Jo Marshall (Kent) of Richmond and Vicki Lea Oliver (Larry) of Richmond; grandchildren: Jerry Cobb, Jr., Ernie Trusty II, Timothy Allen Trusty, Matthew Alan Cobb, Sherri Stapp Case, Amy Michelle Cupp, April Suzanne Trusty, Kristen Stapp Arnold, Beverly Morgan Johnson, Kyle Steven Cupp, Shawn Anthony Johnson, Collin Michael Davis, Jacob Curtis Oliver, Canaan Davis Berg, Kay Allen Young, and Caleb Ethan Davis; many great and great-great grandchildren; sister in laws, Carrie and Rose Willoughby of Lancaster, brothers, Harry Willoughby (Phyllis) of Frankfort and Jerry Willoughby (Phyllis) of Nicholasville; and sisters, Joann Murphy (Don) of Lexington, Mary Teater (Jim) of Lexington, and Janie McCoy of Nicholasville.
Sherman is preceded in death by his parents, wife, and siblings, Thomas Willoughby, Ellis Willoughby, Fred Willoughby (Faye), Paul Willoughby (Pat), Donald Willoughby, and Patty Willoughby Younger.
Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, August 17, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home of Lancaster with Bro. Tim Saylor officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11am-2pm Thursday at the funeral home.
Pallbearers will be grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be son-in-laws.
