Ruby Laverne Fathergill

Ruby Laverne Fathergill, 93, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, April 29, 2023 at her home. She was born on November 17, 1929 in Garrard County to the late Burley and Sarah Liz Malear Fathergill. Ruby worked at Cowden Manufacturing, Moss Flower Shop, and National Casket Factory for many years. 

Ruby enjoyed traveling and never met a stranger. She loved making crafts and always gave them to family, friends, and strangers that she met on her travels.

Ruby attended and was a member of Gunns Chapel United Methodist Church all of her life.

Surviving is a sister, Shelby Fathergill of Lancaster; two nephews, Charles Murphy (Anna) of Lancaster and Eddie Murphy (Patricia) of Lancaster; two nieces, Carol Murphy of Cincinnati and Jennifer Murphy of Nicholasville; five great nephews, Donnie Murphy (Julia) of Florida, Chris Murphy(Deborah) of Berea, Steven Murphy (Scarlet) of Lancaster, Joel Murphy (Jenny) of Frankfort, and Eric Murphy of Cincinnati; eight great great nephews and nieces; five great great great nieces and nephews; special friends, Joyce Allen and her family, Jerry and Catherine Yeakey, Peggy Wright, Gerald Hammonds and the Gunns Chapel United Methodist family.

Ruby, along with her parents was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille (O'neal) Murphy; a brother, Paul Fathergill; two infant siblings, Stanley and Minnie Pearl Fathergill; and a great nephew, Nick Murphy.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Friday, May 5, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tara Hall and Rev. Sam Glenn officiating. 

Visitation will be 5:00 - 8:00 PM Thursday, May 4, 2023 at the funeral home.

Active pallbearers are Steve Murphy, Chris Murphy, Eric Murphy, Joel Murphy, Seth Murphy, Tyler Murphy, Gerald Hammonds, and Jerry Yeakey.

Honorary pallbearers are Members of Gunns Chapel United Methodist Church, Dan Leavell, Chris Burns, and TJ Allen.
