Ray Gilliam Obituary

Ray "Doodle" Gilliam, 85, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, February 22, 2024 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center. Doodle was born on September 16, 1938 in Madison County to the late Charlie and Sally Moberly Gilliam. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Eulalah Naylor Gilliam.

Doodle was a lifelong farmer. He loved working on the farm raising tobacco. He was also a dairy farmer along with many other jobs. Doodle was an avid fisherman and fished every chance he had and was a competittive Rook Player. But most of all, he loved his family and freinds. He was a very hard worker and worked most every day of his life.

Along with his wife, Eulalah, he is survived by two daughters, Teresa Grimes (Mike) and Janet Gilliam Pruitt, both of Lancaster; a brother, Gene Gilliam of Lancaster; sisters, Edwina Humphrey of Lancaster, and Stella Cates of Madison County; grandchildren, Tarra (JR) Marlow, Christy McPherson, Tabitha Prewitt, Kelly Prewitt, and Tiffany Day; great-grandchildren, Payton, Cooper, and Carter Marlow, Madison, Gavin and Layla Manning, Silas Means, Landon Gastineau, and Nathaniel Day; and a great-great grandchild, Nolan Manning.

Doodle is preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Sharon Gilliam Prewitt; a great grandchild, Austin Manning and siblings, Maybell Humphrey, Emma Horn, Carol Gross, Gordon Gilliam, Ernest Gilliam, and Jesse Gilliam. He was also blessed with several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Tuesday, February 27, 2024 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dwayne Lobb Officiating. Burial will follow in Lancaster Cemetery. 

Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM on Monday, February 26, 2024 at the funeral home.

Pallbearers are David Humphrey, Mike Humphrey, JR Marlow, Billy Humphrey, Ricky Humphrey, and Jody Humphrey.

Honorary pallbearers will be Cooper Marlow, Carter Marlow, Gavin Manning, Silas Means, Landon Gastineau, and Nathaniel Day.
