Obituary

Ophelia Naomi Anderson Searcy, 84, was born on September 23, 1937 in Garrard County, Ky. to the late Wendell and Julia Anderson. She departed from this life on February 22, 2022, at her home in Richmond, Ky. 

Ophelia accepted Christ at an early age at Pleasant Run Baptist Church, Buckeye.  She graduated from Mason High School in Lancaster and later graduated from Danville Nursing School. She worked at the TB Hospital in Paris, Ky and other hospitals in Lexington. She married Robert “Bob” Searcy. To this union a daughter was born.  
Some of her favorite things to do was travel, quilting, photography, cooking and hosting family dinners. She loved taking pictures and making memories of family gatherings like the family reunions, graduations, church events and birthday parties that we still cherish to this day. 

Ophelia was an official life member of the New Liberty Sunday School Convention (NLSSC). She was a member of the Executive Board and was a former member of the trustee board. She was an active member of the Mt. Pleasant District Women’s Missionary Auxiliary. She served in several offices in the Youth Dept. She taught the usher board in the Dept. of Religious Education of the convention. She was a teacher of ushering and she served as usher in the district and convention programs. She was active with the Baptist Women’s Missionary convention and was also active with the State Missionary Youth Dept. and was the first ever president. She was active in the Baptist Women’s Educational Convention, which supported Simmons College of Ky. At her passing, she was treasure of the NLBSSC. 

She was at one time a member of the Red Hat Society and also wrote a weekly column of current events in the Central Record newspaper in Lancaster, Ky.

She was proceeded in death by her parents, her husband, her granddaughter Diamond Rose Searcy and step daughter Chippie Searcy.
                                     
Ophelia is survived by her daughter, Zanetta M. Searcy, brother Kenneth T. Anderson, nieces and nephews, Raymond Murphy, James Murphy, Terrie Murphy, LaDonna A. Waiganjo, Malone Anderson, Laval Gaither, Sharon Searcy, Janice Searcy and Steve “Silky” Searcy. Her special niece Marie Harris, an honorary sister Aphine Chenault and her special cousins Barbara Pigg, Shirley Owsley, Cathy Logan, Revella Love, Dotty Lewis, Delleena Sloan, Gene Logan, Davey Logan, Mary Catherine Board, and Mike Logan. Special friends are Flora Byrd, Audrey Gray, Barbara Tifford and Phyllis Wilson.  She has many great nieces and nephews, great, great nieces and nephews and a great, great, great nephew, cousins and friends. 

Visitation will be Friday, February 25, 2022 at Spurlin Funeral Home from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm. Funeral service will follow at 1:00 pm with Rev. Brown officiating.

Burial will be Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 1:30 pm at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
