Mike E. Witt, 70, of Garrard County, passed away on Sunday August 20, 2023, at Landmark of Lancaster in Lancaster, KY.
Mike was born on June 23, 1953, to the late Harry F. Witt and Pauline Tipton. He proudly served in the United States Army from July 1971-August 1981 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War where he was a sniper and combat medic.
Mike was a drill instructor in Fort Knox for 2.5 years and a drill sergeant for 22 honor platoons out of 35 cycles. He received numerous medals and accolades during his career, including but not all, the Distinguished Service Medal, three Silver Stars, Bronze Star with Valor, Bronze Star, two Purple Hearts, six Air Medals for Ten Evacuations and 4 army commendation medals.
He was an avid gun collector, music lover, and lifelong Cincinnati Bengals football and Kentucky Wildcats basketball fan.
Survivors include son, Travis Witt (Christina) of Danville, Kentucky, a daughter, Shonna Hasty(Jeff) of Mount Sterling, Kentucky; brother, Danny Witt (Helen) of Covington, Kentucky: step brother, Bryan Witt of Covington, Kentucky: step sister in law, Betty Witt, three grandchildren, Summer Short (Cody), Remmington Witt and Cooper Witt along with one great grandchild, George Short.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, his significant other, Anna Warner and step-brother, Skye Witt.
A public visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 PM on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel.
