Mary Kathryn “Kack'' Moss Hurte passed peacefully on to her home in Heaven on Tuesday, September 19th at 3:15p.m. at Landmark Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lancaster, Kentucky. She was preceded in death by her dear and loving husband, Clifford “Buzz” Hurte, her parents, William Ball and Anna Elveree Moss, and her siblings, Caroline, David, Shelton, Julian, and Billy Moss.
Mary Kathryn, after graduating from Lancaster High School and attending Eastern Kentucky State College (now EKU), held positions at Cowden Manufacturing Company, the Casket Factory, Dr. Kinnaird’s Office, and as a telephone operator for General Telephone Company, before becoming a Deputy Circuit Court Clerk under Fred Simpson. She was also a dedicated member of many community organizations, including the Joy Makers musical group, Garrard County Cooperative Parish, Rebekah Lodge, and the Lancaster Christian Church. However, most of her contributions went on silently when she noticed anyone in need. She gave her heart and soul to her family and friends.
Mary Kathryn is survived by her two children, Mark David Hurte and Linda Hurte Wardlow, two grandchildren, Spencer Wardlow and Kathryn Wardlow Decker, as well as sisters, Virginia (the late Nathaniel) Rogers of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Wilma (Hugh) Davis of Lancaster. She has a host of nieces and nephews whom she loved as her own.
Mary Kathryn was an avid flower gardener, singer, and seamstress like her mama. She loved her pets, plants, yard sales, hot fudge cakes, and UK Basketball alike. When able, she could often be found sharing a meal at the Country Diner or McDonald’s or visiting friends and family at local nursing homes and hospitals with her little dog, Roxie. She was truly a friend to all who knew her.
Services for Mary Kathryn Hurte will take place at Lancaster Christian Church with visitation on Sunday, September 24th from 5-7pm and funeral on Monday, September 25th at 11am. Burial to follow at Lancaster Cemetery.
The family would like to ask that donations in her honor be made in lieu of flowers to the Garrard County Cooperative Parish.
