Katherine Sowder, 96, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.
Born in Madison County, Kentucky, Katherine was the daughter of the late Harry and Anna Richardson. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Sowder, and her son, Mark Sowder.
Katherine had a strong work ethic throughout her life, working at Cowdens, National Casket Company, and Palm Beach. She also enjoyed a career as a beautician, where she loved serving others.
A faithful member of Lancaster Baptist Church, Katherine treasured attending Sunday School, worshiping with her church family, and enjoying fellowship with friends. Above all, she loved her family dearly and took great pride in each of their accomplishments.
She is survived by her son, David Sowder (Susan) of Lancaster; her brother, Harry Richardson Jr. of Florida; and her sister, Shelby Silvers of California. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Lesley Newcomb, Scott Sowder (Martina), and Ambur Sowder, all of Lancaster, as well as her great-grandchildren, Braxton Sowder, Trevor Jones, Scarlett Doan, Phoenix Newcomb, Brantley Sowder, Austin Claire Lalonde, and Eleanor Parker Lalonde.
In addition to her parents, husband, and son, Katherine was preceded in death by her brother, Leonard Richardson, and her sisters, Barbara Morris, Alberta Gannon, and Josephine Vance.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating. Burial will follow in Richmond Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at Spurlin Funeral Home.
