John Charles Garn, 81, of Lancaster, passed away July 30, 2021 in Lexington. He was born in Kalamazoo, Michigan on April 8, 1940 to the late Charles and Virginia Garn. John is survived by his wife, Joan Lee Garn.
John earned his bachelors in Psychology in 1964. He was self employed, having a restaurant in South Carolina and was a concessionaire. He continued his education on things of interest throughout his 60’s and 70’s to keep his mind sharp. After retirement, he worked part time in a retail environment and was a sub for the school system.
He loved hiking, and hiked the Appalachian Trail several times. John loved nature photography, bird watching, travel, and geology. Above all, John loved his family and spending time with them.
John is survived by two sons, John Charles Garn II of Michigan and Anthony Joseph Garn (Cindy) of Michigan; three daughters, Laura Marie Wortz (Jeremy) of Michigan, Jennifer Lynn Lorge (Tom) of Nicholasville and Sonyia Christine of Crab Orchard; grandchildren, Mikenzie, Gabby, Anthony, Sebastian, Faith, Jeremiah, Olivia, Charles, John, Molly, Alexis, Aundraya, Casey, Haeli, Paris and Darien; eight great grandchildren, nieces, Sarah and Mary; nephew, Charlie; and in-laws, Mary and Jack Fawely of Lancaster.
John is preceded in death by a sister, Melissa Harring and his parents.
Funeral services will be 1pm Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joshua Wiggs officiating. Visitation will be from 11am-1pm.
