Joan Gray Anderson, 79, was born on August 2, 1940 in Boyle County, Kentucky to the late Garnett and Eliza Gray. She departed from this life suddenly on March 10, 2020. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Kenneth Anderson.
Joan accepted Christ at an early age and was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Danville, but attended Pleasant Run Baptist Church, Lancaster. She worked for Kroger in Nicholasville for 20 years. She was highly thought of by her co-workers and customers. She will be truly missed by many who knew her. Joan loved growing flowers, wearing hats and had such a quirky sense of humor. Above all, she loved her family and was adored by them.
Surviving her is her husband, Kenneth; children, Raymond Murphy of Lexington, James A. Murphy (Kelli) of Danville, Kenneth Malone Anderson (Lisa) of Danville, Terrie Murphy of Lancaster, LaDonna Anderson Waiganjo of Richmond and Laval Gaither (Arnold) of Lexington; brother, Garnett Gray (Sara) of Versailles, Best friend, first cousin and whom she loved like a sister, Doris Coulter (James) of Danville; grandchildren, Valerie "Punkin" Palacio (Luis), LeAnne Murphy, Mariela Ramirez, Nathan Ballin (Chasity), Megan Anderson, Raymond Murphy Jr., Alexis A. Pelfrey, Brandon Murphy and Raechel Murphy; seventeen great-grandchildren, sister in law, Ophelia A. Searcy, niece, Zanetta Searcy, very special family members, Marie Harris and Alphine Chenault and many cousins and great friends.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents, mother in law, Julia A. Shearer and a daughter in law, Beverly (Candi) Murphy.
Funeral services will be 1pm Saturday, March 14, 2020 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mitch Brown officiating. Visitation will be Friday, March 13, 2020 from 5-8PM at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pleasant Run Baptist Church Cemetery and a meal will be served after at the funeral home.
Pallbearers are Raymond Murphy, James A. Murphy, Malone Anderson, Brandon Murphy, Raymond Murphy Jr. and DeMarcus Bowman.
