Jo Rita Grimes Thompson, 70, of Lancaster, passed away Thursday, March 27, 2025 at UK Bluegrass Hospice Care Center in Lexington. She was born on July 29, 1954 in Garrard County to the late Henry and Fannie Goins Grimes.

Jo Rita worked for the Country Diner in Lancaster for over 30 years as a waitress and a cook. She also worked in housekeeping at Maplewood Health & Rehabilitation formerly known as Landmark of Lancaster for many years.

She attended Lancaster First Assembly.

Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Halstead of Lancaster; two granddaughters, Shelby Robinson of Mt. Vernon and Isabella Halstead of Lancaster; three great grandchildren, Calvary Robinson, Coleson Robinson, and Lurayna Roninson all of Mt. Vernon.

Along with her parents, Jo Rita was preceded in death by her infant daughter Rhonda Jo Thompson as well as her brothers, Kirby Grimes, Billy Grimes, James Grimes and two sisters, Patsy Grimes and Juanita Lear.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, March 31, 2025 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Pastor Wendell Johnson officiating.

Visitation will be 4:00 - 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Hunter Robinson, Keith Middleton, Brian Martin, Jack Lear, Donald Lear, and John Grimes.
