Jean Turner Obituary
Jean Bailey Turner, 76, of Lancaster passed away on June 20, 2024 at Compassionate Care Center in Richmond. She was born on May 31, 1948 to the late James Royce Bailey and the late Effie Crawford Hazelbaker (William).
Jean was a graduate of Garrard County High School and Eastern Kentucky University where she received a teaching degree and her Rank 1. She was a teacher at Garrard County Schools for over 30 years, where she taught the Gifted and Talented Program. Jean hosted numerous foreign exchange students from Australia, Holland, Japan, and Mexico over the years and dearly loved the Theatre and the Arts. She was a vital part of the Garrard County Arts Council and Friends of Paint Lick organizations. In her later years, Jean loved welcoming family and friends to her Bed and Breakfast, Hammonds Hall.
Jean is survived by two sons, Shane Turner (Sarah) of Lexington and Heath Turner of Paint Lick; a brother James “Jim” Royce Bailey, Jr. (Ethel) of Lancaster; three grandchildren, Clay Hagan Turner, Joshua Samuel Turner and Brooke Bailey Turner; nephews, Tim Turner, Kevin Turner, Jason Turner, and Royce Bailey; a niece, Loretta Jo Montgomery; special family friends, Bernice Cox, who was also her caregiver and Junko Kokuryo and family.
Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM on Sunday June 23, 2024 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Odis Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Manse Cemetery. Visitation will be from 12pm until 2pm on Sunday.
Pallbearers will be Clay Turner, Joshua Turner, Tim Turner, Jason Turner, Ross Rice and James Asberry. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brooke Turner, Games for Dames Friends, Bernice Cox, Becca Moore, Royce Bailey, and Kevin Turner.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial donations be made to Heritage Hospice.
