James Ray Stevens passed away on Monday, April 3rd in Owensboro, Kentucky. He was born in Lancaster, Kentucky on December 1st 1941 to parents Logan Stevens and Senia Morgan Stevens.
James lived with his mother on Richmond Street for many years and loved sitting on the front porch and visiting with friends and neighbors. When his mother passed away, James moved to Owensboro to live with his loving sister, Dorothy Stevens Tucker, and her husband Bobby Tucker. James eventually came to be looked after by his niece Cynthia (CJ) Tucker and her husband Lee Nelson. James spent his later years living at the Hermitage Care and Rehab center in Owensboro where he was well-cared for by a devoted staff.
James loved watching old black and white Western films and TV programs. He had an impressive coin collection. He enjoyed working puzzles and playing Chinese checkers. James had a great sense of style in his youth and his walk-in closet was full of colorful shirts and numerous pairs of shoes. He had a healthy appetite and was especially fond of mashed potatoes and gravy, pimento cheese sandwiches, sweet tea, pecan pie and ice cream. James spent his entire life trapped in a body that often caused him pain and discomfort and yet he was always cheerful, laughing and smiling. He loved people and had a great sense of humor. He made many friends over the years and brought joy to so many. He was dearly loved will be greatly missed.
James is survived by his brother John Earl Stevens (wife Shelby) of Stanford and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces & nephews.
Graveside services will be 3pm Wednesday, April 5, 2023 at Lancaster Cemetery. A public Visitation will be at 1:30 PM at the funeral home.
