It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Elwood Gibboney Jr., 75, of Nicholasville, Kentucky, who passed away on October 20, 2023, at the VA Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born September 7, 1948, in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania to the late James Elwood Gibboney Sr. and Betty Jane (Keeler) Gibboney.
James, fondly known as Jim, Jimmy, Pop-pop, and Dad was a Veteran of the Cold War and served honorably in the Army. He achieved the rank of sergeant and was stationed in South Korea. After his military service, he attended Penn State University and earned a degree in accounting. Throughout his life, James was a devoted son who made a point to be there for his parents until their passing. He loved his country and shared his passion for its history with his children and grandchildren. James had a deep affection for his family and always did his best to support them when he could.
Surviving are his children, Sean Gibboney (Kaye-lani Cutting) of Lancaster, Stephen Gibboney (Tirzah) of Bellefonte, Daniel Gibboney (Brittany Presley) of Mt. Sterling, Cassandra Gibboney (Harrison Popovich) of Lexington, and Brianna Madden (Michael Clark) of Lexington; and grandchildren, Jordan, Neila, Gideon, Lisa, Weston, Waylon, Penelope, and Piper. Also survived by his brother John Gibboney and his family Donita, Jeremy, Brandon, Maia, and Spencer; and the mother of his children Nancy Zonge.
Graveside services with full military honors will be at 10 am Friday, November 24, 2023, at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.
