Harvey Ayres

Harvey Laurel Ayres, 91, of Lancaster, passed away May 30, 2021 at Baptist Health in Lexington, Kentucky. He was born on June 27, 1929 to the late Harvey Lewis and Mable Lusby Ayres. Harvey is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Doris Brogle Ayres.

Harvey was born in Owenton, Kentucky and moved to Lancaster when he was 17, where his father became pastor of Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. It was there he met his wife, Doris and where they have been faithful members for 74 years. Harvey was a MoorMans Feed Co. Salesman and District Sales Manager for 34 years. He was owner of Dixie Stock Farms, where he had one of the largest Angus farms in the United States. He was on the Board of Directors of First Southern National Bank since 1979 and the Ky Angus Association. After retirement, he was a familiar sight at Danny Ayres Realty. Harvey had many accomplishments and accolades, but his legacy is truly his family, whom he was so proud of.

Harvey is preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Angela Allen, who passed in 2002.

He is survived by his wife, Doris, children, Belva Little (Mike) of Lexington, Danny Ayres of Lancaster, Sammy Ayres (Connie) of Winchester, Charlie Ayres (Diane) of Lancaster, Roger Ayres (Priscilla) of Lancaster, special son in law, Joel Allen (Debbie) of Lancaster; two sisters, Bertha Ayres and Becky Adams, both of Lexington, sixteen grandchildren, Randy Sparks of Paris, John Sparks of Paris, Jenny Sparks Green of Winchester, Tara Ayres Abee of Lancaster, Jared Ayres of Lancaster, Andy Allen of Lancaster, Ryan Allen of Lancaster, Tiffany Allen Wesley of Somerset, Kyle Ayres of Lexington, Heath Ayres of Lancaster, Chase Ayres of Boise, Idaho, Alexis Ayres of Columbia, South Carolina, Faith Ayres Patterson of Lancaster, Luke Ayres of Lancaster, Jacob Ayres of Cincinnati, Ohio and Alex Ayres of Lancaster and thirty-three great grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be 11am Friday, June 4, 2021 at Mt. Hebron Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Hebron Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, June 3, 2021 from 5-8pm at the church.

Pallbearers will be Danny, Sammy, Charlie, and Roger Ayres, Mike Little and Joel Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Grandchildren, Mark and Julie Metcalf, Woodie Leavell, Joe Koger, Drew Graham, First Southern National Bank Family and Dr. Ray.

The family would like to thank Tanbark Rehab and Personal Care Facility, nurses and staff of Baptist Health Lexington, Hospice Care, for caring for our father the last four of months of his life.
