Grace Dixon Obituary

Grace Hall Dixon, of Sand Hill, Cumberland, Kentucky passed away in Danville, Kentucky on Friday, December 11, 2020. She was preceded in death by her husband Ed Dixon. She was born January 27, 1926, in Harlan County, Kentucky to the late Joseph P. Hall and Nancy June Thomas Hall. She is also proceeded in death by her siblings, John L. Creech, Jovena Hall Gunn, and Zola Creech.

She was a retired community care giver and home maker, who enjoyed caring for the elderly population in her beloved community of Cumberland, KY.

She is survived by her children, Lowell Dixon (Debbie) of Corbin, KY, LaVaughn Creech, of Lancaster, KY, Jimmy Dixon of Cumberland, KY and Jerry Holcomb (Marianne) of Jeffersonville IN. In addition, she is survived by three grandchildren, Kathy Crawley-Adkins (Richard Dean) of Lexington, KY, Diana Roaden (David) of Corbin, KY and Clayton Alex Crawley, (Great grandson) of Nicholasville, KY.

Although Grace had no formal advanced education, her exceptional life skills, and knowledge of her Appalachian home stead was often the center of most of her conversations. She was a brilliant story teller, she enjoyed reminiscing of her proud Appalachian heritage which will be greatly missed by all that loved her. She loved her Black Mountain and the people of her community; she was proud to be a part of the mountain heritage. Until her death, she desired immensely to return to her beloved mountains. Prior to her illness, she often could be found working in her garden, summer canning was often a hobby she enjoyed. She is fondly remembered as a generous soul, and 1 / 2 often took food to shut ins and enjoyed helping people.

She was a member of Sandhill Baptist Church, she was strong in her Christian faith, and would often share her testimony of faith to her friends and family. Her granddaughters often enjoyed visiting with her, reminiscing with her of years past, and sharing old family recipes. She always enjoyed sharing wisdom and life advice with her granddaughters, which will miss her very much. A beloved mother, Mamaw, and affectionally known to granddaughter, Kathy as Shab. She was friend to many and will be remembered by all that knew her by her infectious smile and laughter. She never met a stranger, and genuinely enjoyed people. Grace will be returned to her beloved mountains, for her homecoming and celebration of life.

Graveside services will be held Friday, December 18, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at Sandhill Cemetery with pastor Glen Cornett officiating.

The family wishes to thank the skilled nursing home workers that loved and cared for Grace. Expressions of sympathy may be sent directly to family members homes, or family request gifts to local skilled nursing homes, in honor of Grace Hall Dixon.
