Gordon Arthur Tuveson beloved husband, father, uncle, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away on Tuesday May 26, 2020 in Lancaster Kentucky. He was the son of Ethel Olsen and Ruben Tuveson, born in Chicago, IL October 26, 1930. He was preceded in death by his older brother Russell.
He is survived by wife of 58 years, Marcella Marinich, one son, four daughters, nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews: son David and Michelle Park; daughter Karen and David Di Nino; daughter Lisa and Kenneth Pargulski; daughter Anne and David McDonagh; and, daughter Christine and Michael Flaherty.
Gordon received both Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Civil Engineering from Purdue University, IN. He was a graduate of the United States Naval Officers Candidate School in Newport RI. He served as a U.S. Seabee officer in the Korean Occupation Forces. Following Naval service, he dedicated himself to his Civil Engineering career specializing in design and construction of bridges, storage tanks, fossil and nuclear power plants throughout the country.
He was a musical man who played drums from elementary school through Purdue University Marching Band. He enjoyed his retirement in Kentucky and continued to show his love for music by building a hammered dulcimer and a lap harp. He also learned to play the lap dulcimer, attended WoodSongs Old-Time Radio Hour, worked in his woodshop, listened to records and played family board games. Gordon loved to dance, hosted gatherings that included family and friends from all over, believed in education for all, and spent time, even in his final days, drawing structures that included energy efficient homes. He travelled with his wife and family, enjoyed meeting people with different interests, personalities and accents, shared laughter and was an avid reader who loved to learn more about the world. He will be dearly missed.
Memorial Services will be private. Spurlin Funeral Home handled all arrangements.
