Emit Long, Jr., 90, of Lancaster passed away November 9, 2023 at his home. He was born in Garrard County on May 17, 1933 to the late Emit, Sr. and Martha Turner Long. Emit is survived by his loving wife, Marlene Edgington Long.
Emit was a proud farmer for many years, where he raised tobacco and ran a dairy farm. He loved fishing and adored his family. He was a veteran in the United States Army and was a faithful member of Good Hope Baptist Church.
Surviving is a son, Emit “Tad” Long (Jackie) of Lexington; a daughter, Del-Leda Johnson (Johnny) of Lancaster; grandchildren, Derek Johnson (Rebekah) and Jordan Johnson, both of Lancaster; great-grandchildren, Andrew Johnson, Ryker Johnson, Layla Johnson, Jacie Means and Kaelyn Means.
He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Sarah M. Shearer and a great-grandchild, Austin Blake Johnson.
Funeral services will be 4pm Sunday, November 12, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Johnny Baker officiating. Visitation will be from 1-4pm on Sunday at the funeral home. Graveside services will be 1:30pm Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at Camp Nelson National Cemetery with Bro. Jerry Browning officiating.
Pallbearers will be Derek Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Johnny Johnson, Danny Rankin, Barry Rankin and Alan “Peanut” Edgington.
Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Moore, Jerry Nickel, Bobby Dietrich, Gene Gilliam, Randy Ellis, Leslie Vanderpool, and Bobby Middleton.
