Bill Borden

Billy “Bill” Joe Borden, 82, of Lancaster passed away Wednesday, July 26, 2023 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.  Bill was born September 8, 1940 in Wayne County, Indiana to William and Mildred Duffill Borden. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Martha Ann Price Borden.

Bill graduated with a Masters Degree and taught Computer-Aided Drafting at the Kentucky Tech Regional Vocational Center in Garrard County for over 26 years. He was a vital part of the community, serving on Garrard County District One Fire Department, EMS, and DES. Bill was also a member of the Spurlin Funeral Home family.  He was a faithful member of Lancaster Methodist Church, where he had served in many roles including song leader, Sunday School Teacher, Trustee. Bill took great pride in keeping the grounds pristine and making sure every detail was perfect. Bill and Martha were active members of the Garrard County Band Boosters for many years, as well as being avid supporters of Garrard County Sports. Their attendance ensured that many children knew they were there cheering them on. Everyone that knew Bill was better for knowing him. 

Bill is survived by sons Brian Lee Borden (Carrie) of Ft. Worth, Texas; Thomas Joseph Borden (Ronald) of Henderson, Nevada; a brother, George Michael Borden (Sue) of Anderson, Indiana; a sister, Peggy Sanquinetti (Don) of Alexandria, Indiana; grandchildren Jacob Todd Borden (Holly), Gavin Edward Borden, Katie Wardlow Decker, Whitney Floyd Ellis (Kevin), Spencer Wardlow, Brooke Floyd Wade (Micah); great-grandchildren Phoebe Borden, Keira Borden, Caedyn Borden, Sebastian Borden, Kaden Ellis, Maddie Ellis, Robert “Brecken” Ellis, Bentley Wolfe, Brycen Wade, Braylei Wade, Lawson Wade, Lincoln Wade; a special friend who is like a son, Sammy Young (Kim) of Lancaster. There are also many special children they have taken care of over the years who they loved as family.  

Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dr. Thomas Borden.

Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 PM Sunday, July 30, 2023 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with an additional visitation from 12:00-1:00 PM at Lancaster Methodist Church on Monday, July 31, 2023.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday, July 31, 2023 at Lancaster Methodist Church with Pastor Joshua Wiggs officiating. Burial at Lancaster Cemetery will follow the service.

Pallbearers are Sammy Young, Kevin Ellis, Micah Wade, Russ Clark, Spencer Wardlow, and Kaden Ellis.

Honorary Pallbearers are Gene Price, Jr., Ronald Swanson, Jim Spurlin, Keith McFall, Charlie Black and Alan Montgomery.
