Mary Brown Dunn, 97, of Lancaster, passed away Monday, October 29, 2018 in Danville. She was born on March 27, 1921 to the late Bee and Hester Ferguson Brown in Beckley, West Virginia. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, Arthur Lewis Dunn, Jr., whom she married July 30, 1944.
Mrs. Dunn dearly loved her family and community. She always fought for what she believed in, she impressed the importance for education on children all of her life, she loved reading, writing and being impeccably dressed, right down to her bold, designer scarves. Among many things that Mary accomplished, Mrs. Dunn was the founding member of First Baptist Church Peace Walk Committee, annual sponsor of the Martin L. King, Jr. Peace Walk of Garrard County, which was near and dear to her heart. A woman of quiet and abiding spirituality, Mrs. Dunn has been an active member of her church since her childhood, and was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Danville.
Surviving is a daughter, Janet Dunn Overstreet (Dan) of Lancaster and three grandchildren: Arthur Chase Overstreet, Hunter Kol Overstreet, and Spencer An Overstreet.
She is preceded in death by her parents and siblings, Payton Brown, Robert Brown, George Bee Brown, Russell Brown, Joe Brown, James Brown, David Brown, and Alice Fitzgerald.
Funeral services 2PM Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Darrick Briscoe and Rev. Barry Bowman officiating. Visitation will be Friday, November 2, 2018 from 6-8PM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Camp Nelson National Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Malone Anderson, James VanDiver, Bruce Warren, Volley Henderson, Rodney Brown, and Drake Banks.
