Jimmie Shearer Obituary

Jimmie Wayne Shearer, 69, of Lancaster, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Baptist Health in Richmond.  He is survived by his loving wife, Mary.

Jimmie was born on March 19, 1950 in Danville, KY to Melvin Jr. and Kathryn (Davis) Shearer.  He was a professional truck driver for 13 years and spent the last 15 years of his career as a utility worker for the J.M. Smucker Corporation.  On January 1, 1971, he married Mary Louise Ray. They raised two sons, Joshua and Jacob, and three daughters, Leslie, Crystal, and Elizabeth.

Jimmie had a passion for studying the Bible and learning as much about God’s Word as he could.  He loved to discuss what he had learned with others and engage in friendly debate with willing participants.  He also enjoyed working on and tinkering with cars. Though not professionally trained, he could diagnose car troubles simply by listening to them run.  He was known for his humorous nature, commitment to biblical commands, and love for his family and friends.

Jimmie was preceded in death by his father, Melvin Jr, and his sister, Judy.  He is survived by his wife, Mary; his mother Kathryn (Davis) Shearer; his five children, Joshua (Amber) Shearer of Atlanta, GA, Jacob Shearer of Richmond, Leslie (Robert) Shults of Lancaster, Crystal (Tyler) Shearer of Lawrenceburg, and Elizabeth Shearer of Louisville; a sister, Doris King; three grandchildren, Lincoln Shearer, Amelia Moore, and Curt (Amanda) Shults; and two great-grandchildren, Carson Shults and Chloe Shults.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm on Thursday, October 10, 2019 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel.  Bro. Daryl Hodge and Bro. Jerry Tomlinson will be officiating.

Visitation will be 5-8 pm, Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
