Jewell Howard Callis

Jewell Howard Callis, 92, passed away Friday, October 19, 2018 at Ephriam McDowell Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her husband, Randy Callis, her parents, J. Harvey Howard and Sarah Howard and one sister, Joy Howard. 

She is survived by her daughter, Kathi Callis; sister, Inez  Dyehouse; and brother, Harvey J. Howard, all of Lancaster. She is also survived by two loving devoted caregivers, Sherry Bryant and Hope Bishop. They made her last days easier.

She was born in Insul (Harlan County) in 1926 and moved to Garrard County in 1941. She graduated From Eastern Kentucky Teachers College in 1947 and taught at Crab Orchard High, Lancaster Graded and High School for 38 years.  She was a wonderful homemaker and mother. Jewell was member of the Lancaster Baptist Church and loved her Velma Lucas Sunday School Class.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 Monday, October 22, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home with Bro. Harold Best officiating. Burial will be in the Lancaster Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 5-7 PM.

Pallbearers will be Ruby Lear, Matt Barsotti, Kevin Howard, Jamie Barsotti, Jimmy Wayne Howard, and Josh Howard.

Honorary bearers will be Claude Anderson, Sherry Bryant and Hope Bishop.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Salvation Army.
