Gatewood Phillips. 86, of Lancaster, passed away, Tuesday February 12, 2019 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville.
He is survived by his loving wife, Flonnie Phillips.He was born in Lincoln County, Kentucky to the late John and Hattie Phillips.
Gatewood was a farmer and also a truck driver for the Garrard Mill and Bastin Lumber for over 26 years. He was a faithful member of Hyattsville Baptist Church and volunteered for many years with the Up With Youth program in Lancaster.
In his younger years he loved coon hunting and loved making wood canes and sharing them with others.
Also surviving are two daughters, Rita Phillips Browning(Walter) and Jeanne Phillips Carrier(Curt) both of Lancaster; a brother, John Phillips of Lincoln County; four grandchildren, Brandy Mello, Nathan Carrier, Lafe Newton, and Sara Horn; and four great-grandchildren, Vivian Jones, Reed Horn, Hallie Kate Carrier, and Luke Horn.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Lee Phillips, a brother Kenneth Phillips, four sisters, Minnie Grimes, Lula Reynolds, Grace Cook, and Roberta Stewart.
Funeral services will be 3:00 PM Friday February 15, 2019 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Gary Durham and Bro. John Penick officiating.
Visitation will be 1:00 until service time.
Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
Active pallbearers are Gabriel Edwards, Chuck Jacobs, Walt Browning, Curt Carrier, Lafe Newton, Nathan Carrier, Patrick Horn, and Chester Wayne Adams.
Honorary pallbearers are Brandy Mello, Sara Horn, Vivian Jones, Reed Horn, Hallie Carrier, Luke Horn, Betsy Carrier, Hugh Davis, Hal Bastin, and the Hyattsville Baptist Church Men’s Sunday School Class.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Heritage Hospice or Hyattsville Baptist Church Kids Ministry.
