Giles Ballard "G.B." Shell, 91, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday, December 18, 2019 at UK Good Samaritan Hospital in Lexington, KY. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Georgia Speaks Shell.
G.B. was born in Rockcastle County, KY to the late Giles W. and Grace Owens Shell.
G.B. was a lifelong farmer. He accomplished many things during his lifetime. He was a founding member of the Garrard County Tobacco Festival and Tobacco Cutting Contest, Garrard County Beef Show and Garrard County Fire District 1, past president of Garrard County Farm Bureau, an election officer in Garrard County for over 40 years and former president of Paint Lick High School Alumni.
G.B. was a member of Paint Lick Christian Church since he was 9 years old and was board chair for Paint Lick Christian Church from 1961- 2013.
Surviving is a son, Gary Shell and his wife, Jennifer of Lancaster; a daughter, Terry Shell Brown of Lancaster; a sister, Verla Weaver of Ohio; four grandchildren, Jamie Brown Kiper, Elizabeth Shell Kline, Giles Shell, and Jonathan Shell; and twelve great- grandchildren.
G.B. along with his wife and parents was preceded in death by one brother, Gus Shell; and four sisters, Flora Nicely, Mattie Zander, Geneva Smith, and Bessie Bullock.
Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Monday December 23, 2019 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Wendell Johnson and Pastor Garth Lehman officiating. Visitation will be 4-8 pm Sunday.
Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gary Shell, Jonathan Shell, Giles Shell, David Logan, Rick Hisle, Jamie Kiper, and Mario Cordova.
Honorary pallbearers are the numerous family and friends of the Garrard County Community.
