Donald "Don" Merida

Donald “Don” C. Merida, 81, of Lancaster, passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Charleston Health Care Center in Danville, KY. He was born February 20, 1937 to parents Chester and Garnett Fothergill Merida. Don retired as a Quality Engineer at IBM in 1991 after 30 years. 

Don loved sports and was a Little League Boy’s Baseball coach for several years. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play sports. He was an avid University of Kentucky and Cincinnati Reds sports fan.

He was a member of Hyattsville Baptist Church.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years of marriage, Jayne Huffman Merida; four children: Terry M. Lucas of Lancaster, Kathy M. Ball of Lancaster, Scotty Merida(Susan) of Lancaster, and Tony Merida(Cindy) of Nicholasville; eight grandchildren: Kevin Lucas, Coy Lucas, Lindsay B. Ames, Betsy B. Carrier, Presley Merida, Troy Merida, Trey Merida, and Marcus Merida; and three great-grandchildren: Hallie Carrier, Felicity Ames, and Camron Lucas. Don also leaves behind his beloved cat, Hairy Harry.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Lewis M. Walter officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday.

Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Pallbearers are Troy Merida, Trey Merida, Kevin Lucas, Coy Lucas, Aaron Ames, and Nathan Carrier.
