Bert was not old enough to be in school yet but he was in the school building every day since his parents lived next door to the school building and they were the custodians of the school building. Bert became the "little mascot" of our class. We all loved Bert and he was always with us when it was possible for him to be. Therefore, we often hid Bert under the big round library table that was located in the back corner of the library during our "study hall" time. We thought it was "fun" to keep him hid under the table while family members and school personal were looking for him and he must have thought it was fun to be "hid" since he would cling to our legs and he would never make a sound for the whole time we in the "study hall." class period. The girls were guilty too; they would never tell where Bert was hiding out either. Bert was a great little friend and i, Ben Ray, most certainly want to express my condolences to his family.
