Verna May Smith

Verna May Smith, 72, of Garrard County, Kentucky passed away June 15, 2022 in Preachersville, Kentucky. Verna May was born in Madison County to the late Chester and Susie Adkins Rogers. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Smith, Jr.

Verna was a former employee of Gulf States Paper and she and Jesse ran J & V Grocery in Preachersville for many years. She dearly loved being a caregiver to many people. She loved people and loved her family dearly. Verna May was always so happy and never met a stranger. She was a faithful member of Crab Orchard Baptist Church.

Surviving is her son, Thomas C. Smith (Janet) of Preachersville; a special granddaughter, Christina Mae Smith and a great granddaughter, Hadlee Grace Allen, a special friend, Betty Seibers and several nieces and nephews.

Verna is preceded in death by her husband, parents, two brothers, James and Roy Rogers and a sister, Ethel Rogers.

Services will be held Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at Spurlin Funeral Home at 1:00 pm with Rev. T.J. Godbey officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 am until time of service.  Burial to follow at Camp Nelson National Cemetery in Nicholasville, Kentucky.

Pallbearers will be Randy Carrier, Joe Ball, Gary Carpenter, Darby Montgomery, Kevin Montgomery, Clayton Shepherd, Tommy Gill and Isaac Clay Montgomery.

Honorary pallbearers will be Zelda Causey, Mona Reed, Brittany Lyman, LeAnna Dotson, Connie Gill and Benita Brock.

Memorial contributions are preferred to Heritage Hospice.
