Obituary for Leila Hammons

Leila Hammons, 89, of Lancaster, passed away Wednesday April 11, 2018 at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center in Danville. She was born on December 16, 1928 in Cincinnati, Ohio to the late Merrill and Nelle Rigsby Hammons.

Leila graduated from Eastern Kentucky University and went on to get her masters degree at University of Kentucky. She was a home economics teacher for over 42 years.

Leila was a member of Lancaster United Methodist Church.

Surviving are two sisters, Anne Brogli(Herbert) of Lancaster and Jean Ratcliff of Walton, KY; a sister in law, Ruth Hammons; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, Leila was preceded in death by two brothers, Merrill Hammons Jr. and Bill Hammons.

Funeral services will be 1:00 PM Saturday April 14, 2018 at Spurlin Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Stephen Brogli officiating. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Friday.

Burial will be in Lancaster Cemetery.

Active pallbearers are Herbert Brogli Jr., Marty Brogli, Martin Andrew Brogli, Todd Brogli, James Ratcliff, Jared Brogli, and Jeremy Brogli.

Honorary pallbearers are Richard Hawley, David Feldman, Robert Hignite, Bobby Hammons, and Caywood Metcalf.
